Study Elementary School is hosting a night to celebrate unity in diversity. The 8^th annual ELL (English Language Learners) Family Night is from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Study Elementary, 2414 Brooklyn Ave.  

The emcee for the event is Donovan Coley, a Jamaican immigrant, pastor and former CEO of the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission. A Mariachi Band with students from Memorial Park Middle School and The Myanmar Sister Society Dancers will be the featured entertainment. There will also be food representing various cultures. Those in attendance are asked to wear the traditional clothing of their heritage. Community partners will be in attendance offering resources to families. 

The event is for current and past Study ELL students and families.  

Arby’s is hoping to get younger customers to visit their chain of restaurants, and students at North Side High School believe they have a plan to make that happen. Ninth grade 3DE students will present their ideas to Arby’s executives and judges virtually during a National 3DE Case Challenge from 12-1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 11, at North Side High School, 475 E. State Blvd. 

Specifically, Arby’s asked the groups to develop modifications or upgrades to the customer experience to attract teenagers and get them to be regular customers at the fast-food giant.  
North Side’s team is one of four groups nationally to present their ideas for consideration at the national level.  

A group from North Side received honorable mention in the national competition last year and a Snider team competed in the national finals. 

Students and staff are taking center stage as North Side High School prepares to host its annual Dancing with the Stars charity event. The unforgettable night of dancing and school spirit raises money for the Riley Children’s Foundation. Members of the public are invited to attend a performance at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at North Side High School, 475 East State Blvd. 
 
Tickets for the event cost $2 and can be purchased at the door. There will be opportunities to make additional donations during the show. 

Dancing with the Stars is not just about dancing; it is about making a difference. Each ticket sold and every donation made directly supports the Riley Children’s Foundation, providing vital resources and assistance to children and families in need. 

Fort Wayne Community Schools is offering pre-K to more students than ever before. To ensure students get registered and on the right path to academic success, FWCS is hosting Passport to Pre-K from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at North Side High School, 475 E. State Blvd. 

At Passport to Pre-K, parents will learn about FWCS’ pre-K programs, On My Way Pre-K, meet teachers, learn about transportation, connect with community partners and more. There will be games and other fun activities for children in attendance.   
 
FWCS offers a variety of full-day and half-day pre-K programs available to all eligible students at neighborhood schools throughout the city. Children must be 4 but not yet 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 to be eligible to attend pre-K.  

Getting registered early is important. It gives families more time to learn about their school’s program, and it helps ease the student’s transition to school. For registration, families should bring photo identification, the child’s birth certificate and two proofs of residence, such as a utility bill, medical bill or mortgage or rental papers. Families are encouraged to bring the child's immunization history.   

Parents wanting to receive more information about pre-K registration should call the Family and Community Engagement Center at 467-2120. 

Schools will hold their own pre-K orientations before the end of the school year. The first day of pre-K for the 2024-25 school year is Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024.
